Levels of Abridgement

We offer three levels of abridgement, designed to for different reading proficiencies while preserving the author’s original tone and intent where possible.

  • Beginner (A1-A2 CEFR). Short paragraphs and simple sentence structures using the 2,000 most common English words. Content length is significantly reduced (about 40% of the original). Style and tone are simplified but remain faithful to the author’s voice where possible.
  • Intermediate (B1-B2). Uses clear, everyday language and moderately simplified syntax. Retains roughly 70% of the original length. Preserves the author’s tone and narrative flow.
  • Advanced (C1-C2). The content is not shortened and vocabulary is not restricted. Essentially a retelling of the original work in modern English, maintaining its full depth and nuance.
